Synthetic detergent have caused considerable trouble in waste treatment and water pollution.
Unlike soaps, this surface activie agent is relatively resistant to biological attack and is not percipitated by the calcium the Magnesium ions in Hard Water.
The authors studied on the monthly variation of water quality and the concentration of Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate by location of the Han River between Ku Ui and Yong Dong Po watershedfrom May to November 1973.
The concentration of A.B.S. in the Han River were found to be increasing gradually from 0.111ppm in May to 0.203ppm in November. But in September, in the rainy season, it was decreased to 0.124ppm.
All the area were found to be containing below 0.5ppm of A.B.S.
In the downstream of the River, the concentration of A.B.S. was 0.214ppm and this was 11.3 times higher than that of the upper stram, 0.019ppm.
In the mid-stream, it showed to be 0.196ppm and this reached to the concentration of 10.3 times higher than that of the upper stream.
